Compensation and Benefits

Pay rate starts at $25 per hour ($52,000 annually) DOE, with premium pay for those who are multilingual and/or have 4+ years of directly relevant experience.

Overview of Service:

LifeWire’s Homelessness Services provides emergency shelter and transitional housing services to domestic violence survivors. Emergency shelter is located in scattered-site individual units to eliminate many of the challenges of communal shelter. Transitional housing is located in semi-private homes where we serve women and their children who are impacted by both domestic violence and chemical dependency.

Overview of Position:

LifeWire’s Homelessness Services Advocates provide daily advocacy, support and transportation to the survivors and their children who are residing in our emergency shelter—“My Sister’s Home”, and our transitional housing program—“My Friend’s Place.” Homelessness Services Advocates work closely with Therapeutic Health Services’ chemical dependency counselor located on-site at our transitional housing program and as a part of the homelessness services team. The Homelessness Services Children’s Advocate supports parents, children, and staff in delivering family-centered advocacy. This position holds partnerships and services relating to children’s needs.

Particular need to fulfill either a Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday work schedule

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide survivor driven and trauma informed advocacy services to survivors of domestic violence residing in our emergency shelter and transitional housing program. Requires a particular focus on the intersection between domestic violence, homelessness and chemical dependency.
  • Develop and nurture on-going relationships with partner and referral service providers.
  • Remain knowledgeable of service and agency guidelines and procedures to make informed and independent decisions in emergencies and daily activities.
  • Regularly meet with participants in both homelessness services.
  • Assist in the coordination and expansion of family services for adults and children with support of Homelessness Services Manager.
  • Facilitate support groups, education groups and other meetings with survivors.
  • Support participants with transportation needs, either in agency vehicles or other means.
  • Organize and prep units for move-ins or move-outs in the homelessness services programs.
  • Work closely and cooperatively in a team setting with all staff, interns, donors and volunteers.
  • Participate in system data collection in an accurate, complete, and timely manner.
  • Conduct outcome measurement and use applicable evaluation tools.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and statistical information.
  • Appropriately spend program funds and consistently track the expenditures as required.
  • Participate in continuing education, community meetings and internal meetings.
  • Conduct Health and Safety inspections.
  • Assist in maintaining the housing facility in compliance with fire and health code regulations.
  • Assist survivors in all LifeWire Services (including Survivor Advocacy, Housing Stability, Mental Health, and Homelessness Services) by contributing to supportive activities including the 24-hour Helpline, support groups, prevention activities and the like.
  • Work irregular hours, including weekends.
  • Maintain organized shared spaces and personal work environment.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned in support of LifeWire’s mission.


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred. Work experience may substitute for education.
  • Two or more years’ experience in crisis intervention and domestic violence advocacy preferred.
  • One or more years’ experience providing direct services to women and children in a residential facility preferred.
  • Multilingual/cultural preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing chemical dependency or mental health concerns preferred.
  • Experience, ability and willingness to work with a culturally diverse team and participants.
  • Ability to meet LifeWire background check requirements.
  • Access to reliable transportation and valid Washington State driver’s license. (Work location is not located on a bus line.)
  • Ability to safely and regularly drive LifeWire vehicles (including a 15-passenger van).
  • Updated – or ability and willingness to update – CPR and First Aid Certification and AIDS/HIV Certification.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to deliver services.
  • Ability to attend work regularly, including scheduled work time outside of typical office hours.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use a computer, which includes extensive keyboarding, and the telephone. The employee must be able to easily communicate with a wide variety of individuals. Specific vision abilities required of this job include close vision to read participant paperwork, data enter information, and work with government and community websites, forms, and email.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move from location to location throughout the transitional housing facility and the community. LifeWire advocate roles are mobile, which requires the employee to travel locally to meet participants, other agency representatives, and government employees in their offices. Employees must frequently carry up to 15 pounds and must occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 30 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is most often in a transitional, communal housing environment with varying levels of noise, frequent interruptions and occasional intensive emotional encounters. Occasionally, the employee is in an office environment with moderate noise. The employee is required to drive LifeWire vehicles on a daily basis, transporting residents, their children and supplies; this requires exposure to the outdoors and daily encounters with traffic. Employees are often exposed to recitations of traumatic situations and must be prepared to handle secondary trauma.
